Natalie - is it art?

Description

I suppose this has rather been done to death, but as the people on DA are quite different to those on Flickr I may as well pose it again.

When creating this image, I was planning on creating something erotic. However, my current thinking on this matter is that it helps to be "suggestive" when it comes to "erotica".

This image however, while containing many features that men in particular find sexy (blatant vagina, sneaky peak of bum hole, shapely legs, and small feet), seems less erotic than I'd hoped. There is no connection between the subject and the observer, meaning there is no sense of suggestion. And because there isn't a feel of "naturalness" about it (this isn't the kind of position or setting women find themselves on a daily basis) there isn't even the voyeuristic feel about it.

So is it art? My definition of art is something that I'd hang on the wall. Now I know some people out there wouldn't think twice about hanging this picture on the wall, but I don't think I would - even though I created it. I'd put it in a coffee table book (if I ever got around to printing one), but because I think it would shock some of my family and friends (my peers) then I'd have to think twice about hanging it on the wall.

Shame that. And isn't it odd how society has such a steer over what you can and can't do?
